EVENT FORMAT

Instead of a full scrimmage, Saturday’s event will be an open practice that also includes limited scrimmage snaps. Florida will mix in approximately 40 scrimmage snaps with football drills. The format adjustment was made because the Gators currently only have six healthy offensive linemen and head coach Will Muschamp feels that it would be right to ask them to participate in 60-100 snaps over the course of a single afternoon. “It’s not fair to go into a spring game situation and ask these guys to take 60-70 snaps in a row,” he explained. “That’s not healthy. That’s not good, it’s not good for our team.”

Muschamp also detailed what will occur during the practice/scrimmage (in order): (1) Field goal/point after touchdown drills, (2) punting and individual drills, (3) one-on-one work with the secondary and receivers going head-to-head while the quarterbacks throw the ball, (4) one-on-one work with block reaction for the offensive line, (5) linebackers and running backs picking up blitz protection and coverage responsibilities, (6) two series of scrimmage with the ball on the 35-yard line, a total of 8-12 plays, (7) red zone one-on-one, (8) offensive and defensive line two-on-ones, (9) two series of scrimmage with the ball at the 35 yard line, a total of 8-12 plays, (10) two full cover punts and a punt/punt block drill, (11), two series of scrimmage from midfield, (12) two full cover kickoffs and a kickoff/kickoff return drill, (13) two series of scrimmage from midfield, (14) red zone 7-on-7s with the ball at the 18-yard line, (15) additional drills including pass rushing, (16) backed up punt drill, (17) one-minute scrimmage drill.

“It’s about getting good-on-good work. It’s about getting your best players going against your best players. … You get better when you’re going good-on-good,” Muschamp said. “This is good work. It’s good special teams work. This is a normal scrimmage-type situation for us as far as our football team is concerned. It’s good-on-good and that’s all I’m concerned with.”

OFFENSIVE NOTES / THINGS TO WATCH

» Wide receivers coach Joker Phillips will make his coaching debut with the Gators. He has never won a game in The Swamp and was 0-20 coaching against Florida.
» Wide receiver: Junior Loucheiz Purifoy (#15) played receiver exclusively for the first seven days of practice and will see some time there on Saturday. Freshman Demarcus Robinson is looking to make a statement and earn playing time as a rookie.
» Fullback: Redshirt junior Gideon Ajagbe (#25) and redshirt freshman Rhaheim Ledbetter (#29) are new players at this position. Ajagbe has received rave reviews for his work during spring practice.
» Offensive line: Only six players will be healthy enough to play on Saturday. Redshirt freshman Quinteze Williams (#98) moved over from the defensive line this spring.
» Quarterback: Redshirt junior Tyler Murphy (#10) and redshirt freshman Skyler Mornhinweg (#17) are competing to be the primary backup.
» Running back: Can redshirt junior Mack Brown (#33) or freshman Kelvin Taylor (#21) unseat sophomore Matt Jones (#24) as the primary ball carrier?

DEFENSIVE NOTES / THINGS TO WATCH

» Associated head coach / defensive line coach Brad Lawing will make his coaching debut at Florida. He is 3-12 in his long career as an opposing coach against the Gators.
» Safety: Looking to replace both starters, Florida will begin practice with junior Jabari Gorman (#21) and senior Jaylen Watkins (#14) at the position. Redshirt junior Cody Riggs (#31) and redshirt freshman Marcus Maye (#20) are also getting a serious look.
» Defensive tackle: Also replacing both starters at this position, the Gators will be seeing what senior Damien Jacobs (#4), redshirt junior Leon Orr (#44) and junior transfer Darious Cummings (#55) can bring to the table.
» Linebackers: No one has received more positive buzz than sophomore Antonio Morrison (#12). Redshirt juniors Neiron Ball (#11) and Darrin Kitchens (#49), redshirt sophomore Michael Taylor (#51) and freshman Daniel McMillian (#13) will each be making their own case to start.
» Pass rushers: Sophomores Buck LB Dante Fowler, Jr. (#6) and defensive end Jonathan Bullard (#90) came on strong in their freshman season. Keep an eye on their explosiveness even though there will be no hitting the quarterbacks.
