One of the top plays in the history of Florida Gators basketball went down minutes before 1 a.m. ET in Madison Square Garden on Saturday as junior point guard Chris Chiozza saved the day with an epic floater from beyond the arc that became a buzzer-beater three and the most memorable moment from the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
The shot, which OnlyGators.com is dubbing “Extra Cheese,” moved Florida over Wisconsin 84-83, made UF to 9-1 all-time in Sweet 16 games, and pushed the Gators into the Elite Eight for the eighth straight time when provided with the opportunity.
As tremendous as Chiozza’s play appeared on television, as with most things having to do with Florida, you need to hear how the team’s legendary radio play-by-play man Mick Hubert called the shot. On assignment with IMG Sports Network, Hubert was forced to lose his mind not once but twice as it was not initially clear whether Chiozza’s shot was a three-pointer.
