FOUR BITS: Foley, Roper, Tebow, ESPN

1 » In a question-and-answer session with the school’s website, Florida Gators athletic director Jeremy Foley noted Thursday that his team and the Georgia Bulldogs will both wear colored jerseys during the Florida-Georgia game. “It’s just something a little different,” Foley explained. “To be honest, a fan suggested it. He sent me a picture of what they used to do when Coach [Steve] Spurrier was playing. He had a blue jersey on and whoever was tackling him had a red jersey on. It’s a unique rivalry and just a little different something to do. There is no particular reason. Georgia agreed and we agreed. At the end of the day, you’ve still got to win the ballgame no matter what color jersey you have on. I think it’s just a little something that makes the game even more unique.” No specifics were given as to whether this is a one-off decision or has been instituted for the duration of the current contract between the opponents to play in Jacksonville, FL.

Foley also notes that there is a “sense of urgency” in remodeling the Stephen C. O’Connell Center and that a decision on upcoming Southeastern Conference football scheduling (whether to go to nine league games) will come in June, which you can read along with some other less-interesting topics by clicking here.

2 » The Gators on Thursday released the official dates for the speaking engagements that will be attended by Florida’s assistant football coaches in the spring. Head coach Will Muschamp will take part in nine of his own.

Offensive coordinator Kurt Roper
» April 14 – Marion County Gator Club (Ocala, FL)
Offensive line coach Mike Summers
» May 5 – Capital Area Gator Club (Tallahassee, FL)
» May 8 – Northwest Florida Gator Club (Pensacola, FL)
Special teams coordinator Coleman Hutzler
» May 6 – Volusia County Gator Club (Daytona Beach, FL)

3 » A new professional football league – yes, another one – hopes to launch in 2015 and wants former Gators quarterback Tim Tebow to serve as its face. The A-11 Football League aims to operate with the same rules as the NFL except for the fact that all 11 offensive players will be considered eligible receivers. “[Tebow] is perfectly built for this football league,” founder Steven Humphries told the San Francisco Examiner. “He’s my favorite football player and always has been.” Added commissioner Scott McKibben: “We would love to have Tim Tebow join our league. Tim Tebow stands for everything we think the game ought to represent — character, values and role-modeling for young players.” The eight-team league has already reached agreements to have franchises in Bay Area (San Francisco) Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Michigan, New Jersey and Tampa Bay. It plans to hold “showcase” games on May 17 (Tampa, FL) and June 5 (Dallas, TX) before beginning the season in the spring of 2015. ESPN has already greed to air the games.

4 » Prior to the start of Monday’s edition of Around the Horn on ESPN, Florida alumnus Israel Gutierrez – a NBA columnist for the network – played devil’s advocate in regards to the Gators’ chances of going all the way in the 2014 NCAA Tournament while also making the case that UF could have been undefeated this season had it not been for injuries and suspensions.

I truly disliked the all white Unis for the SECCG slaughtering by
Ala-BAMA! I guess I’ll always associate the those uniforms with
that game. That said, In general I could give a flip about the uniform colors. I just don’t care. Am I alone on this?

I thought Tebow was training for his NFL return? The A-11 isn’t looking too bad for a guy that is an extreme NFL long shot. Tim “He Hate Me” Tebow.

Don’t give a rat’s ass what color jerseys we wear vs UGA. I just want to see our HBC be able to lead us to a win over them for once.

  4. G2 says:

Is this what were reduced too, caring about some color scheme…..come on, give us some new uni’s (Nike Pro Combat) and lets get it on. Foley has become a buffoon to address this subject!!

  5. Sam Andreu says:

At least he addressed “you still gotta win the game”. Geez. Georgia? That game use to get overlooked. Now we chase them every year. P.s.they got the D Coordinator for the last 2 NC TEAMS. Wear whatever color we want.. “Bartender, I’ll have another, please”!

  6. Michael Jones says:

Israel must not have seen the Auburn game. I’d say Auburn was pretty hot from beyond the arc.
