Florida Gators at 2016 NFL Combine: Saturday

By Adam Silverstein
February 28, 2016

For the seventh-straight year, OnlyGators.com begins our coverage of the eight former Florida Gators participating in the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine (National Invitational Camp) at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The event, which is held for six days from Feb. 23-29, consists of more than 300 players being put through a series of drills, tests and interviews while more than 600 NFL personnel in attendance (including coaching staffs, executives, player personnel and medical staffs) look on and evaluate each of them. It amounts to a major job interview for these athletes to participate in ahead of the start of the 2016 NFL Draft on April 28.

COMPLETED

RB Kelvin Taylor (Group: 3 | Camp: RB23)

DAY FOUR PARTICIPANTS

Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson* (Group 5 | WO33)
Height: 6’1″ | Weight: 203 lbs.
Arm length: 33″ | Hand size: 9 1/2″

Bench press: DNP

40-yard dash: 4.59 seconds | Three-cone drill: 6.77 seconds*
* Sixth-fastest among running backs
20-yard shuttle: 4.19 seconds^ | 60-yard shuttle: DNP
^ Ninth fastest among running backs

Vertical jump: 34.5 inches | Broad jump: 123.0 inches

Notes: Robinson did not show out at any one area in particular during the combine, but he posted fine numbers overall and showcased his athleticism for teams. Teams will be impressed when they watch him at workouts and on film, but his downfield ability and solid run blocking for a wideout are negated by character concerns, lazily run routes and a propensity for avoiding contact. Ultimately, Robinson’s positives will outweigh his negatives and he will get drafted – likely early on the third day – but there’s no question that he could have gone earlier as he has some of the traits that the best receivers in this class possess.

Tight end Jake McGee (Group 6 | TE12)
Height: 6’5″ | Weight: 250 lbs.
Arm length: 32 3/8″ | Hand size: 9 5/8″

Bench press: 17 reps of 225 pounds

Workout: McGee did not participate in any of the timed or measured drills but did run routes and join in other parts of the workout. There was no reason given for him deciding not to test his speed and jumping ability.

Notes: Though McGee was unable to flash his athleticism, he did prove that he can get it done on the field during combine drills. McGee does have some working against him – namely his injury history (breaking his fibula and tibia in 2014) and advanced age (24) – but he also has incredibly soft hands for a big man, understands route concepts and has proven to be a tremendous teammate both at Virginia and Florida. Where he needs to improve is his run blocking, but there are plenty of tight ends in the league used primarily as pass catchers, and McGee should not have much of an issue being picked on the second day of the draft.

DAY THREE PARTICIPANTS

Defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard (Group 7 | DL08)
Height: 6’3″ | Weight: 285 lbs.
Arm length: 33 5/8″ | Hand size: 10″

Bench press: 23 reps of 225 pounds

Notes: To be added.

Defensive end Alex McCalister^ (Group 8 | DL37)
Height: 6’6″ | Weight: 239 lbs.
Arm length: 36″ | Hand size: 9 3/8″

Bench press: DNP

Notes: To be added.

Linebacker Antonio Morrison (Group 9 | LB27)

Morrison did not show up to the NFL Combine and has given no explanation for his absence.

DAY TWO PARTICIPANTS

Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III* (Group 10 | DB23)
Height: 5’10” | Weight: 204 lbs.
Arm length: 30 5/8″ | Hand size: 8 3/4″

Bench press: Sunday

Notes: To be added.

Safety Keanu Neal* (Group 11 | DB39)
Height: 6’0″ | Weight: 211 lbs.
Arm length: 32 3/4″ | Hand size: 10 5/8″

Bench press: Sunday

Notes: To be added.

So why do you think Morrison did not get an invite? I thought he played really well at the Senior bowl?

  2. Matt says:

Sorry I should have seen what you mentioned above so let me rephrase any update on why he did not make it to the combine?
