Gators gain commitment from Chris Williamson

The Florida Gators are in desperate need of versatile playmakers, which makes the Monday evening commitment of three-star athlete Chris Williamson (Gainesville, GA) an important one for the program.

Williamson (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) chose Florida over Michigan, picking the Gators just days after giving the program his final official visit. He also had offers from California, Georgia, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech, among others.

Where Florida winds up using Williamson remains to be seen, though most recruiting services project him as a cornerback at the next level. He can also play wide receiver and is seen as an explosive player with the ball in his hands.

As a wideout for Gainesville (GA) High School, he hauled in 52 passes for 1,061 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 20.4 yards per reception. Williamson also nabbed two interceptions as a defensive back, and he plans to play defense on the next level.

“[Florida] showed me everything that I needed to see in a school, the opportunity to come in and play with the corners they already have there,” Williamson said during his commitment ceremony on Fox Sports. “Everybody else tried to play numbers against Florida. That’s really not something I was worried about. I knew that I could come into Florida and compete with these guys. I know I’m going to have to bring it each and every day and that’s going to make me better as a player.”

With Williamson now in the fold, Florida has added eight 2015 prospects in nine days, including three on Monday. The Gators now have 16 commitments in the Class of 2015.

what? wow! what a late commit and keep the momentum going, keep my hopes alive for the big stars as this coaching staff seems to get it and work it.

they are really on a roll, and hope the momentum works in our favor in a day or so. At CSU just bringing in 3 stars was a dream, now he is digging in and he knows he can get the best of the best. If Byron commits to us there will be a landslide of several, what could have been a 3-4 year rebuilding from what WM did could be 1-2 years at most

Not rerally an exaggeration, just not sure how asking me the type of lotion I use to is something I need to disclose before reading an article. But if it’s only through signing day its no big deal.
