With the Florida Gators‘ starting long snapper entering his senior season, the program was in need of another top-tier player at the position to supplant him following the 2018 campaign. Enter Marco Ortiz (Richmond, VA), who committed to the Gators on Tuesday night.

Ortiz, who will likely join the program as a preferred walk-on, is rated as a five-star prospect and No. 6 player overall at his position per Rubio Long Snapping. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound recruit has spoken with a number of Power Five programs but has made his decision for Florida.

“I am very excited to announce that I am committed to the University of Florida!! #GoGators #AllBite18,” he tweeted.

Soon-to-be senior Ryan Farr has played in 38 straight games for Florida since enrolling in 2015 as a preferred walk-on, snapping every field goal, point after touchdown and punt. The Gators also have redshirt junior Jacob Tilghman and redshirt sophomore Brett DioGuardi on the roster, though Ortiz should be expected to beat out both of them in 2019.
