Set to return to college football in 2017 following a two-year absence, the UAB Blazers announced Thursday that they will travel to Gainesville, Florida, to face the Florida Gators in nonconference action as part of their return schedule on Saturday, Nov. 18.

A Florida spokesman confirmed this scheduling agreement to OnlyGators.com on Thursday.

The Gators to this point have not announced their entire nonconference slate for 2017 outside of a neutral-site contest against the Michigan Wolverines that is scheduled to open the season on Saturday, Sept. 2 in Arlington, Texas. Florida has its annual in-state rivalry showdown with the Florida State Seminoles set for Nov. 25 but also has one more slot to fill.

“The UAB Football program continues to make great progress towards its return to the field in 2017, and the announcement of our highly competitive non-conference schedule is another milestone in this process,” said UAB athletic director Mark Ingram. “We look forward to exciting and entertaining games against top notch programs and appreciate the cooperation from the administrations and coaches at Alabama A&M, Coastal Carolina, Ball State and Florida in working with us to create a mutually beneficial scheduling agreement.”

Florida and UAB, which is a member of Conference USA, last squared off in 2011 with the Gators beating the Blazers 39-0. UF previously defeated UAB 51-3 in the teams’ only other meeting in 2002.
