Prather joins Wilbekin on Florida injury report

Florida Gators senior forward Casey Prather, his team’s best player through the first 14 games of the 2013-14 season, joined senior point guard Scottie Wilbekin (ankle) on the injury report Thursday evening.

The Gators (12-2, 1-0 SEC) announced around 6 p.m. that Prather missed practice with a swollen knee, would undergo an MRI on the appendage Thursday night and is now questionable for Saturday’s road contest against Arkansas (11-3, 0-1 SEC).

The injury is especially concerning for Florida considering Prather has been a firecracker for the Gators this season, averaging a team-high 17.0 points per game while shooting a team-best 62.4 percent from the field.

He has started and scored in double figures in each of UF’s games and is widely considered the most improved college basketball player in the country.

Wilbekin, who sprained his right ankle with less than three minutes left in Florida’s dominant 74-58 victory over South Carolina on Wednesday, missed practice as planned Thursday and also remains questionable for UF’s next game.

A source close to the program confirmed to OnlyGators.com the team’s assertion that Prather’s swollen knee sprung up on the trainers Thursday. The belief is that he hurt it during Wednesday’s game but when and how is not currently known.

Furthermore, OnlyGators.com learned that Florida is not overly concerned about Wilbekin’s sprained ankle, which was described as moderate. If he does miss Saturday’s game, it will likely be as a precaution as it is the second time he sprained the same ankle this season (first in the closing minutes of UF’s Dec. 3 loss at UConn).

Head coach Billy Donovan is scheduled to meet with the media on Friday afternoon and should have an update on the status of both players at that time.

Lady hoopsters win again, Adam. Might be time to get on that bandwagon! Go Gators!
