The 2018 campaign was a tremendous Year 1 for head coach Dan Mullen as he returned to the Florida Gators, and it ended with the program’s highest final AP Top 25 ranking since 2009. Florida checked in tied for No. 7 in the last college football rankings of the 2018 season, joining SEC East foe Georgia in that slot.

That does not necessarily mean the Gators should be overly thrilled with that placement. In fact, despite being ranked ahead of LSU in the penultimate AP Top 25 of the season, Florida was somehow jumped by a team it beat in the regular season despite both winning their respective bowl games — UF in more dominant fashion. Florida trounced Michigan 41-15 in the Peach Bowl, while LSU took down UCF 40-32.

Nevertheless, the Gators should be proud of their finish to the season — winning their final two games by a combined 82-29 — and hopeful that the 2019 campaign will be another stellar one for Mullen’s crew.
