Gorman commits to Gators at Under Armour game

After a difficult season and a head coaching change, the Florida Gators and their fans have been hearing some negative recruiting news for the last few weeks. The same was not true Wednesday during the 2011 Under Armour All-American Game as four-star safety Jabari Gorman (Miami, FL) committed to the Gators late in the first quarter.

Gorman, the No. 8 safety (No. 85 overall recruit) according to ESPNU and No. 10 safety (No. 174 overall) according to Rivals, chose Florida over Ohio State and Miami and was one of five Gators commitments who played in the game.

Also participating were five-star quarterback Jeff Driskel (Oviedo, FL) and four-stars tight end A.C. Leonard (Jacksonville, FL), athlete/S De’Ante Saunders (DeLand, FL) and wide receiver Ja’Juan Story (Brooksville, FL).

Driskel accounted for one of the highlights of the night when he avoided a pass rush and took off for a 63-yard touchdown run. He finished with a team-high 80 yards on the ground and had a potential 70-yard touchdown pass dropped at the end of the first half. Leonard was instrumental in Driskel’s explosive run by coming up with a huge block on the play; the duo celebrated with Gator Chomps after the score.

The first official commitment under new head coach Will Muschamp, Gorman becomes Florida’s 16th recruit for their growing 2011 class.

    Jabari!

  2. Daniel M. says:

Nice! How does his ass taste UM?

  3. Ken says:

actually, if you are counting him, he is one of five gator
commits to play in the game, not one of four

  4. Ken says:

I tell you what, though, this is the first time I have had
a chance to see Driskel play, all i can say is WOW! this kid is
going to be incredibly exciting for the next few years as a
    Gator

  5. Gatorbuc15 says:

I agree Ken. Driskel has looked awesome tonight!

  6. Gio Showtime says:

Can anyone identify who was the other guy Gator Chompin
after the Driskel TD besides Leonard?

  7. dp says:

Yeah if only that Duckhead Blackmon didn’t drop that cannon
throw by Driskel at the end of the first half!

  8. zurbo says:

we reallllly needed a safety too

  9. Mr2Bits says:

@Gio Showtime : Driskel had a good night outside of the
botched catch which led to a pick. That other guy chomping after
his scramble….none other than AC Leonard…UF’s top TE commit.
Its been a good night except for seeing FSU attached to all these
    players choices.

  10. Ken says:

that throw at the end of the first half is what really blew
my mind, through it across his body, off his back foot 70 yds and
absolutely perfect..His 2nd half run was impressive as well, great
    instincts and vision

  11. Gio Showtime says:

There was another player wearing #65 besides Driskel and Leonard who was chomping

  12. J.Hunt says:

#65 was Cyrus kouandjio, I saw him do the gator chomp too.

  13. npgator says:

The blocking in that game was very pourous but that is what
happens in these games. Our boys played well and I was hoping that
Sanders would have gotten a chance for a return.

  14. John S says:

Very glad to get the safety help, welcome Gorman. Quan Bray
also mentioned that he’s still taking 3 more visits, with UF being
one of them, fingers crossed we can make up a lot of
    ground.

  15. Mr2Bits says:

@npgator : The blocking was horrific in that game. These
QB’s couldn’t do more than a 3 step drop before having someone in
their facemask. This game would be Brantley’s worst nightmare. I
know its a long shot but I really want Chickillo(decent shot) and
    Clowney(slim chance) to don O&B.

  16. ncgator says:

I’d love to somehow snatch Clowney, that kid is a freak much like Jevon Kearse. Can’t figure out how Bellamy selected Clemson!

  17. SC Gator says:

Take it from someone who has seen him play in person… Clowney is just as impressive vs full OL’s with plenty time to gel as he was vs the patched together line in the UA game. He has that rare ability to influence how a play is run just by his very presence.

  18. Drew 4 Orange & Blue says:

I mostly watched Drskel and forwarded through most of the game as it’s tough to watch offenses that have been thrown together….I like Driskel’s size, athleticism, arm strength & elusiveness in the pocket….other than that it was tough to tell much on how good of a passer he is and he had many throws rushed or off target…..but he seems to have natural leadership

  19. Andrew says:

This game was not quite as good as last year for new commits. But I like our chances with Chickillo. He looked pretty good in the game. Also, have high hopes for Stephon Anthony. I really thought Roberson was going to pick UF. Maybe he’ll change his mind. Coach still has a lot of work to do. We only have 16 commits. Gotta snag some more guys in the next two months.

FSU is going to be really really good in the next couple years. Frightening.

#65 would be a great pick up for us so maybe that Gator Chomp felt right to him and he will come to us. Don’t get too excited about Gorman just head, he is headed to OSU this weekend I think. he is one who may change schools a couple of times before signing day but I hope he stays…now lets go get some more.

  21. Beep says:

Driskel was awesome but you guys…the pass was from the 30
to the 10. That’s 60 yards, not 70. Sucks that the receiver let it
go right through his hands though – would have made Driskel’s
passing numbers look a lot better. Rival fans know to be scared
    now.

  22. Wingtee says:

How did we let FSU blast ahead of us again . We had our
foot on their throat nut let them of the hook, just like the mid
80’s and probation let em up

  23. Drew 4 Orange & Blue says:

Jernigan looked great during US Army game as did Lynch (FSU
commit but they said he is waivering now) any update on Jernigan?
Blakely was in that game but I am not sure he even got any
    carries?
