Former Purdue Boilermakers quarterback Austin Appleby has decided to move on to the Florida Gators as a graduate transfer, the player announced Monday night. As a graduate transfer, Appleby would be a redshirt senior with one season of eligibility remaining for 2016.

“I have made a decision to continue my college career at the University of Florida,” Appleby said as part of a statement released on Twitter. “I am very excited about this opportunity and all the great things that are in store for Gator Nation!”

A former three-star prospect out of Canton, Ohio, Appleby started the first three games of the 2015 season for the Boilermakers before being benched. He completed 119-of-207 passes for the season, amassing 1260 yards (6.1 per attempt), eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. For his career, Appleby has posted 19 touchdowns and 19 picks.

Appleby decided to leave Purdue in Dec. 2015 and reportedly visited a Western Kentucky practice last month. At Florida, he will compete with sophomore Treon Harris, redshirt sophomore Luke Del Rio and a pair of incoming freshmen in four-star Feleipe Franks and three-star Kyle Trask for the starting job.

The Gators have not confirmed the addition of Appleby as of press time. Purdue Rivals affiliate GoldandBlack.com first reported Appleby’s decision.
